Abstract

Pyrotechnics, the science of materials capable of undergoing self-contained exothermic reactions are used in numerous things from movies to holiday spectacles.  The effects produced by pyrotechnic devices can be beautiful and breathtaking.  Although one may think that the construction and the workings of some of the pyrotechnic devices may appear simple, in reality it is quite complex.  Many factors have to be considered to produce the best effect and produce it safely.  With certain pyrotechnic devices numerous reactions and processes occur in a fraction of a second to produce the wonderful effects we see.  As you read through the following pages in this website, you will explore all the areas of pyrotechnics ranging from fireworks to matches and you will have a better understanding of what happens behind pyrotechnic special effects.
